On a Spring morning along the Sea of Galilee some 2,000 years ago, the Risen Jesus asked his disciple Peter this deeply personal question: “Do you love me?” At first glance, we might expect Peter to give a wholehearted, “Yes!” After all, Peter is one of Jesus’ first...
The words Lent and romance typically don’t go together. Lent brings to mind drudgery, sacrifice, and slogging through the dreary days of March without our favorite treats. What’s romantic about that? Sure, we know we’re supposed to give up something for Lent—“It’s a...
The Gospel reading for the First Sunday of Lent takes us into the desert—the place of testing. Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness recall Israel’s 40 years’ sojourn in the desert. What was the purpose of this long journey through the wilderness? Moses told the people...
There’s a big difference between making a judgment and judging someone’s soul. Is it okay for me to use my mind and simply make a judgment? If I notice it’s raining, I make a judgment: “I should bring my umbrella.” If it’s snowing, I make a judgment: “I...
One thing that makes It’s a Wonderful Life so inspiring to generation after generation is that it showcases ordinary, everyday heroism—a heroism everyone can relate to. Unlike most heroes today, the beloved main character, George Bailey, finds his adventure not in...
I knew my marriage might be in trouble when my iPhone didn’t even recognize my wife. I had been practicing with my new smartphone at work and wanted to take the opportunity to show off in front of my wife, Beth. Using “Siri”—Apple’s “intelligent personal assistant”...
When people talk about the rosary, there is so much one can say. I appreciate the Christ-focused aspects. I know some people can list countless miracles or success stories tied to the rosary (Lepanto, the woman who was spared from Ted Bundy's attack, etc.). Some people can dig deep into the myteries.
One thing that stands out to me is that outsiders/non-Catholics HEAR Mary's name many times. But because rosaries involve the meditations on Jesus, many people don't realize just how Christ-centered it is, even if no words were prayed out loud. Sometimes I think it would be good for someone to gather some of the insights that people have gained while praying the rosary. I know it's really deepened my views and understanding of the various mysteries.
Great talk on Saturday.
Thank you so much for blessing us with new connections to Mary and the Bible! It really gave new light to some of the presentations in our CGS Atrium today at school.
Today is my birthday on Annunciation. How special to wake up to see these pictures. God graces me again via you, Dr Edward Sri! Maybe one year I will be there to celebrate Annunciation and my birthday together.
Totally agree with Lewis! Austen shows that virtue is the goal and that others, when we allow them, can promote real change and conversion in ourselves! Ascension press should do a Beth Stein edition of a Jane Austen novel that includes recipes and discussion questions on how to lead a Jane Austen party!
I love this so much!!!
Wonderful! How inspiring!
Great idea!
Love this idea!
I am sure she encourages them to read the books beforehand. :-) Just about every film version of Jane Austen adds romance, while the author was not romantic at all. Her books were amazing analyses of humanity that transcend time, and still teach us today about virtue and so much more.
That is so cool, what a great idea.
How wonderful!
Do you have a resource available for this?
Wish I could have been there
One of my favorite memories from being out there in Denver!
Oh, I’d love to attend! How do we find out more?
I also love Jane Austen and every time i see the movie of Sense and sendibility is always a new revelation
Lovely!
That is so fun! My daughter would love this! How do we find out more to have her participate sometime?
Jane Austen is wonderful. Can she bring this out to CA? 😁
