Prudence is the virtue that most immediately helps us live our lives on target. When we regret a decision, find ourselves in a sticky situation that was quite avoidable, or just sense our lives are not heading in the right direction, it is often because this...
Do you agonize over big decisions or get anxious about the future? Are you afraid of commitments? Do you change your mind a lot? These tendencies may be an indication of a lack of prudence. In the previous reflection, we saw how counsel is the first step of prudence,...
The Gospel reading for the First Sunday of Lent takes us into the desert—the place of testing. Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness recall Israel’s 40 years’ sojourn in the desert. What was the purpose of this long journey through the wilderness? Moses told the people...
Many great popes, saints, and Christian leaders have exhorted us to pray the rosary. It’s a powerful prayer, they say, one that can change your life, strengthen the family, bring peace to the world, convert entire nations, and win the salvation of souls. But does the...
Leading with Mercy – 4 Simple Steps – by Edward Sri – If you walked into your local grocery store and asked the average person, “What does the Catholic Church stand for?” what would be the response? Many would focus on the moral issues: “The...
When people talk about the rosary, there is so much one can say. I appreciate the Christ-focused aspects. I know some people can list countless miracles or success stories tied to the rosary (Lepanto, the woman who was spared from Ted Bundy's attack, etc.). Some people can dig deep into the myteries.
One thing that stands out to me is that outsiders/non-Catholics HEAR Mary's name many times. But because rosaries involve the meditations on Jesus, many people don't realize just how Christ-centered it is, even if no words were prayed out loud. Sometimes I think it would be good for someone to gather some of the insights that people have gained while praying the rosary. I know it's really deepened my views and understanding of the various mysteries.
Great talk on Saturday.
Thank you so much for blessing us with new connections to Mary and the Bible! It really gave new light to some of the presentations in our CGS Atrium today at school.
Today is my birthday on Annunciation. How special to wake up to see these pictures. God graces me again via you, Dr Edward Sri! Maybe one year I will be there to celebrate Annunciation and my birthday together.
Totally agree with Lewis! Austen shows that virtue is the goal and that others, when we allow them, can promote real change and conversion in ourselves! Ascension press should do a Beth Stein edition of a Jane Austen novel that includes recipes and discussion questions on how to lead a Jane Austen party!
I love this so much!!!
Wonderful! How inspiring!
Love this idea!
I am sure she encourages them to read the books beforehand. :-) Just about every film version of Jane Austen adds romance, while the author was not romantic at all. Her books were amazing analyses of humanity that transcend time, and still teach us today about virtue and so much more.
That is so cool, what a great idea.
Do you have a resource available for this?
Wish I could have been there
One of my favorite memories from being out there in Denver!
Oh, I’d love to attend! How do we find out more?
I also love Jane Austen and every time i see the movie of Sense and sendibility is always a new revelation
That is so fun! My daughter would love this! How do we find out more to have her participate sometime?
Jane Austen is wonderful. Can she bring this out to CA? 😁
